Like Brother, Like Sister

On 4/7/12  I posted a piece about my grandson, Henry who had surgery for hydrocephalis at 7 months of age. I was amazed how God used a simple song about a simple truth to calm . baby, mother and grandmother. The song clearly declares God's greatness and strength as well as His sovereignty over all of  His creation in the typical repetitive language of a children's song.

Henry had his surgery and shunts were not needed. He is now 4 and a member of  a tae kwon do class. Although every test has looked good for Henry he is behind in the area of balance. Shortly after enrolling in the class Henry was painfully aware of  the things the other kids could do that he couldn't. The combination of encouragement from the staff as well as Henry's tenacity has produced wonderful results. The other day Henry proudly showed me kicks alternating with forward jumps. His ability to balance has noticeably improved,

Three years and a few months have passed by and now Henry's sister Ava is 7 months old. Unlike her brother the worst medical condition that she'has, is an allergy to soy and milk. Now what produces stress are things like paying bills, a dad's  extra hours on the job,and a baby fussy while teething. None of the differences seem to matter. Rock solid simple Biblical truths sustain us no matter our age, physical condition or the source of our stress.

For the past few months if  I catch Ava while she is still willing to look at me, then I can stop her from crying by singing Henry's song in a loud reasonably on key voice. There is no surgery looming in front of us or other immediate crisis but this is still a message we need to remember. We live in a fallen world where sin occurs daily in the lives of us all. We are wise if we never forget what our God is like, foundational truths that can be stated in simple children's songs.

My God is so great,
So strong and so mighty.
There's nothing my God can not do.

The mountains are His.
The rivers are His.
The stars are His handiwork too.

My God is so great,
So strong and so mighty.
There's nothing my God can not do.
